Do you ever find yourself worrying about things that haven’t even happened yet? Or going over and over events from the past that you can’t change? If so, you’re not alone. Worrying is one of the most common — and pointless — things we do. In this article, I’ll explore why worrying is futile and offer some tips on how to stop doing it.

Worrying is the most enormous waste of time.

Worrying makes no sense whatsoever. If you’re ruminating about the past, it is gone. Finished. You can’t change anything. If you’re worried about the future, it is also a waste of time. What you think might happen probably never will. And even if it does happen, what have you gained by worrying? You will have to deal with it when it happens.

When you worry, your body releases the stress hormone cortisol. This can have many adverse effects, including:

  • Increased blood pressure
  • Increased heart rate
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

So not only is worrying pointless, but it’s also harmful to your health.
