I would guess that very few people haven’t purchased a self-help book in their life. How did it work for you? Was your life magically changed for the better?

I doubt that it was.

In this article, I would like to discuss the 7 biggest problems of the self-help industry that I have identified in my years of research and personal practice. Then I will tell you what DOES actually work to affect change.

The self-help industry is worth billions. You attend webinars, listen to motivational speakers, read books, listen to podcasts and hire life coaches all for personal growth — to improve yourself or change your bad behaviors and habits.

Marketdata estimates the US self-improvement market was worth $11.3 billion in 2021. With 6% average annual growth, the industry will reach $14 billion by 2025.

People are obsessed with finding happiness and peace of mind. The self-help industry is booming in the USA. But do these self-improvement books, podcasts, webinars, and techniques actually work? Do they cause people to change?
