There’s just something about walking meditation that gets my creative juices flowing. It’s a moving meditation where I can really focus on the present moment and enjoy the journey. Walking meditation is a great way to get in touch with your body, relax your mind, and connect with nature.

Let’s explore everything you need to know about walking meditation, from its origins to its benefits.

Walking meditation origins

Thich Nhat Hanh was a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, teacher, author, and peace activist credited with popularizing mindfulness meditation in the West. He started practicing walking meditation in the 1960s to stay connected with nature and find peace of mind while on long spiritual pilgrimages.

He found that walking meditation helped him focus better and connect with his surroundings. It also allowed him to explore his thoughts and feelings more deeply than sitting still. Over time, he developed a specific walking meditation technique that has been widely adopted by practitioners worldwide.

The benefits of walking meditation

Walking meditation has numerous benefits:

  • You’ll be more mindful of your surroundings.
